Justice and Peace Minutes for
October 6, 2009
Present: Beth Mortensen, Karen Clifford, Marcy
Ferriter, Becky Lee, Mary Ann Krems
Prayer was offered by Marcy
Ferriter calling attention to those who are hungry and poor. Future prayers
will consider the Penitential Litany of the Catholic Bishops for the rest of
the year.
September minutes were read
and approved.
Group consensus is that each
member would choose an activity to coordinate and any jobs assigned to Justice
and Peace will be shared. Chair of the
meeting will continue to rotate.
Agenda:
- New members:
Members are asked to each contact one or two people to talk about
joining the team. Recommendation
was approved to approach the Parish Council and request that a day of
committees along with a pie/ice cream fall social would be a way to
recruit new members as that is how many of us joined. If the council would have a survey of
volunteerism for the parish, Justice and Peace would agree to collate and
share the results. Mary Ann will
contact Bob for approval.
- Council will also be asked for approval of
soliciting mugs for the kitchen in order to reduce paper usage and be more
“green.”
- Mission Collections were discussed and will be
added every other month. J&P
will purchase smaller barrels for collection and group will educate parish
on missions as they are doing for food collections. Scheduled are November: Nicaragua
Project (Marilyn Slusarski), January: Sr. Catherine, March: Padre Miguel and June: Sr. Luann
Brown,BVM, Quito Ecuador (Working Boys Center). Parishoners will be asked to donate specific items.
- Meals at House of Peace and Salvation Army: Becky proposed that an announcement
would be placed in bulletin announcing a date and a menu and requesting
volunteer offerings. Any shortage
would be addressed by J&P members. Committee wishes to expand the
mission of serving to the parish.
- Joint Justice and Peace meetings. The recent one at House of Peace was
held and Mary Ann will connect about future meetings.
- Christmas Dinner at St.Stans: Committee will host a planning meeting
on Sunday Oct. 11 after the 8:00 Mass to determine interest in hosting a
dinner on Christmas Day. Mary Ann
will make coffee, Becky will bring juice and Marcy will provide donut
holes.
- Bulletin board on Fremont St for Justice and
Peace: Contact will be made with
Deb Spang to see if a confirmation student would like to take over the
board for Justice and Peace and set it up once a month. Sarah has offered
a cd with material on it that can be used.
- October is Domestic Violence Month: the Justice and Peace Committee is
invited to an open house on Oct. 27 from 4-6 at the Family Crisis Center.
Next
meeting is scheduled for MONDAY November 2 at 6:30 at the Rectory. Becky will facilitate.
Respectfully
submitted: Mary Ann Krems
