TITHING - WHAT CAN I
GIVE BACK TO GOD?
Sacrifice is an
individual thing. God truly asks nothing of us that is ours. He asks only a
share of what He has given to us. If we give only when it's easy to give, we
are not doing our share or even trying to sacrifice.
Each of us must judge
for ourselves what we will give each week. This action must be based upon
individual conditions and not those of our neighbor. Our weekly offering to God
should not be based on what others do. It should be what we are able to do. Our
parish asks for equal sacrifice for God - not for.equal offerings.
For a long time, many
methods have been used to help answer the question: "How much should I
give on a regular basis to support my parish?" Some feel tithing is the
answer – 5 %to my parish and 5% to other charities. Others have tried to
give $1.00 a week for each $1,000 of annual income. In some places, people
contribute two hours pay per week. All amount to about 5% of weekly income, but
the final determination must be a personal one. It must be based on an
individual's need to share fairly with others in a genuine spirit of commitment
and service.
Through the generosity
of parishioners, we have a skilled and talented staff, beautiful worship space
and well maintained buildings and grounds. It is our hope that this level of
stewardship will continue so that we can maintain what we have and continue to
provide for the spiritual and physical needs of our parishioners.
Here is a suggested
guide for you to consider to determine the amount you would give for your
weekly contribution.
