PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
OCTOBER 13, 2009

to order at 7:00 pm.

Opening

Agenda Repair:
Bob proposed three changes to the agenda as distributed. First, in the absence
of a liaison for the Justice & Peace Committee, Bob has invited Mary Ann
Krems to present some information to the Council on behalf of that committee.
This would be added to the agenda as item 4a. Second, items 15 & 16 are
proposed to occur before item 14. And lastly, proposal to add an item 17 titled
“adjourn”. All proposed changes were
found to be acceptable to Council members and meeting will proceed with changes
to agenda as presented.

Finance
Council Report: Rita Borski
Ø
Weekly
collections reported to be 11% behind collections at this time last year
Ø
Drainage
problem near rectory, rectory landscaping and asbestos removal in lower level
of school all completed this summer per Buildings & Grounds.
Ø
Memorial
Committee reports that St. Stan’s will host next deanery-wide seminar on
memorials this coming spring. Date is set for May 12, 2010 and will be held in
Kostka Hall.
Ø
Diocesan
Annual Appeal Committee reports that as of the end of September, 16,155 pledges
received and $12,505 collected. Follow up letters to advance phase parishioners
and all parishioners who have made a pledges so far will be drafted and sent
extending a thank you.
Ø
Fundraising
Committee holding a Pancake & Sausage Breakfast on November 8th
in Kostka Hall with the help of the Knights of Columbus. A fundraising policy
has been proposed by Fr. George in order to better define guidelines for
holding fundraising events. Fr. would like to elicit ideas from Council as to a
larger event designed to bring in outside parishes and community members and
thus, more revenue.

Winter
Carnival date has been set for Sunday, February 14, 2010 and planning is in
progress.
4a. Justice &
Peace Report: Mary Ann Krems
Ø
Due to no liaison
person in place, J&P Committee members will rotate attending Parish Council
meetings as needed to provide report.
Ø
Committee is
meeting the first Monday of the month.
Ø
Every other
month, J&P will hold a mission collection. The committee will educate the
parish prior to the collection weekend and will ask for specific things related
to the mission benefitting from the collection.
Ø
Committee
discussing “go green” philosophy for St. Stan’s and would like to see use of
ceramic coffee cups at social events as opposed to paper. They would invite
parishioners to donate coffee cups if needed to ensure there is an adequate
supply in the kitchen.

Discussion
regarding St. Stan’s holding another Ministry Fair or Stewardship gathering.
Committee feels this is important and is wondering if another such gathering is
in the works for this year. Committee identified problem in past of
parishioners not being called after they had signed up or volunteered for a
certain task or committee. J&P Committee volunteered to collate all
responses from any type of Time and Talent sheet distributed to parish and make
follow-up calls as needed.

Christmas
Dinner preparations are underway. Several parishioners have stepped forward for
key positions such as shopping, food prep, and dining room set-up. Volunteers
will still be needed for serving, delivery etc. Bulletin announcement in this
week expressing this need.
Ø
Joint-ventures
of J&P Committees throughout deanery continue. St. Bron’s to hold next
presentation in December.

ready to open their new school classrooms. Significant amount of money donated
by a parishioner for SMART Boards.

All Saints
Gala being held the weekend of October 30th at St. Stephen’s. St.
Stan’s needs to provide a poster for the event and Bob is looking for a volunteer
with artistic ability to put our parish entry together.

Pastoral
Planning meeting to take place at St. Bron’s on October 20th. St.
Stan’s has representatives attending from both Pastoral and Finance Councils.

Formation Secretary in place and working with Deb Spang. Her name is Mary
Schroeder. Further introductory information to follow in bulletin.

applicants have come forward for Pastoral Minister position. Committee has
interviewed 2 at this time. Fr. George will make a decision on selection before
leaving for India next week. Father
George will announce his decision following his return.

Staff meeting
held September 14th, discussion regarding roles in Father’s absence
during his vacation in November. Father will be away in India from October 19th
through November 20th.

Stewardship
Convocation being held in La Crosse on November 5th. Bob is planning
on attending and distributed information on this conference to the Council for
anyone else who may be interested.

Needs
Assessment: Bob reported nothing new in this area since last meeting.
Discussion among Council members that involving new Pastoral Minister in this
process would be ideal.

Liaisons to
Committees: Mary Ann Krems willing to do reports for J&P as mentioned
earlier. Family Life Committee has no chairperson at this time.
Ø
Welcoming
Buttons: Teri Jenkins researched and reported findings to Council as to types
of badges and buttons available and estimated cost. Extensive discussion among
members as to best fit for purpose of welcoming at the entrances of the church.
Teri will bring more samples to next meeting in order to determine what size
would best fit need.

Penny Wachowiak
presented information to Council pertaining to H1N1 and ways to educate
parishioners in this area. Bulletin announcements, flyers and pulpit
announcements were provided for review by Father George to be incorporated into
our communication with parishioners.
