St. Stan's Justice and Peace Meeting    February 12, 2008

Present:   Mary Ann Krems, Denise Czaikowski, Gene Van Ryzin, Sarah Gwidt, Rebecca Lee

Excused: Steve Brilowski, Beth Mortenson, Kim Delikowski,

Prayer was opened by Mary Ann with a prayer for healing from the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on the anniversary of Dorothy Stang, one of their sisters murdered on Feb 12  in 2005.

Old Business:

  1. Interfaith Caregivers Presentation:  Presentation was very well done but regret on low numbers led to suggestion that it might be given again to the Rosary Society.  Mary Ann will contact Judy Van Ryzin to see if possible.

  1. Food Collections:  Denise reported that the parish was again very generous for the collection to Operation Bootstrap in January and St. Vincent De Paul in February.  The March collection will benefit HIV/AIDS Ministry.

  1. Thank you and Mail Updates: A thank you card was read from Operation Bootstrap.  The J&P committee has been invited to a luncheon at the diocese on Wed. March 5 by Catholic Charities if anyone wants to attend, call Mary Ann   Catholic Relief Services had sent information on collecting for Operation Rice Bowl 75% supports Catholic Relief Services projects and 25% goes to local hunger and poverty alleviation programs.  Since it appears it was not initiated this Lent in the parish, it will be deferred until next year and then J&P can promote it.

  1. Food Cards for the rectory:  Committee agreed that money donated to the food collection will be given to the rectory to buy food certificates and $500.00 earned by the youth for Souper Sunday has been donated as well.

  1. Yang Project with Roncalli Newman in LaCrosse:  Mary Ann said it was promoted in the bulletin and from the announcements before Masses.  Petitions were at four entrances and 3 completed forms were sent.  However, one was missing and must have been picked up by accident.

  1. House of Peace Dinner: Kim reported that the meal went well and members commented that they truly enjoyed serving it.   Policy for future meals was discussed and the following consensus was agreed to follow for the future.   Meat will be purchased from the J&P contingency fund and members of Justice and Peace will help coordinate the meals but the food will be provided by requests to parish members to donate. Serving at the Salvation Army in the spring was considered.  When we have a date, it should be forwarded to Kathy Weisbrod who will recruit students in the Confirmation program to help serve.  We will try to do one more meal before summer.

  1. Baby Gifts for Christmas: Beth had coordinated so report will be given at next meeting.

New Business:

  1. Fair Trade Coffee Presentation:  As Mark Molski has left the committee, this project is deferred until we can obtain a speaker.
  2. Habitat for Humanity is suggested for March and Sarah will contact her father and Jackson Case to arrange the presentation. She will try to arrange it for March 2.
  3. Group agreed that J&P sessions will be held the same week we have food collections. The Parish Council is also arranging some events for that time on Sundays so we will try and collaborate with them.
  4. Future presentations to be arranged will be Dave Fletcher and Marilyn Slusarski.  Dave is presenting on Feb. 21 at the parish on his trip but committee felt there might be more who could attend on a Sunday as well.

Members not present can pick up handouts in mailbox at church.  New directories are available.

THE NEXT MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY APRIL 8 AT 6PM IN THE RECTORY.

Meeting Adjourned:  7pm
