St. Stanislaus Pastoral Council October 2007 Meeting Highlights

Minutes of Pastoral Council Meetings can be found at http://www.saintstans.net/PastoralCouncil.html

·         Fr. Dennis thanked members of the Council for their service to the Parish as Parish Administrator in Fr. Al’s Absence

·         Fall Fest 2007 was a success.  600 dinners were served and although there were some leftovers they were used for the Faith Formation dinner.  The event continues to be an opportunity for us to come together as a Christian community.

·         There was a large turn-out for the Ministry Fair that provided members of St. Stans community the opportunity to get information about the many ministries St. Stans has to offer.  In addition, having parish members update their information helps to keep our records current.  The parish response was positive and the Ministry Fair combined with our Pie and Ice Cream Social will be considered for an annual event.

·         The Council recommended that the Collection Boxes at the entrances of the church be discontinued.  The boxes are heavy and cumbersome for ushers to handle and they receive minimal use.  There is also the issue of security that has to be considered when they are used.

·         Dave Fletcher reported that we are at 62% of reaching the goal of the Bishop’s Annual appeal.

·         Bob Rogers reported that the duties of the position of the Coordinator of the Stevens Point Deanery have changed because changing needs and emphasis of the member parishes, but the position will continue.

·         At the time of the Council meeting, Fr. Al suffered a slight setback on an otherwise smooth road to recovery.  We are all keeping him in our prayers

·         Mary Ann Powell is leading a small group in the Faith Alive program sponsored by the Diocese whose aim is to combine spiritual awareness with service to others.  This is in keeping with our belief that means to salvation is achieved by both faith and service.  Anyone interested in the program should contact Mary Ann or any member of the council.

·        The council agreed to support an interim policy regarding material to be included as inserts in the bulletin.  The specific language is being drafted but the essence of the recommendation is to adopt the current practice of having St. Stans’ Pastoral Minister together with the Pastor (Parish Administrator) make the decision until Fr. Al returns.

·        The council agreed to explore the possibility of offering a Parish Nurse Program as part of its ministry.  We will be surveying our community to find out how many people might benefit from this program.

·        Dave Fletcher proposed establishing a “Greeter Ministry” which would be composed of teams of people, particularly families, who would welcome people as they enter the church for weekend Masses.  The council endorsed the idea and asked to be updated as plans progressed.

·        Next meeting is scheduled for 7pm, November 27 at the rectory
