St. Stanislaus Pastoral Council April 2008 Meeting Highlights

·         Minutes of Pastoral Council Meeting March 11, 2008 were approved

·         Committee Reports:

o        Catholic Education: Nancy Chinn-O’Reilly

§     The committee agreed to “house” the Catholics Coming Home program at St. Stan’s.

§     Committee discussed Mission Project for St. Stanislaus Parish and suggested the parish focus on needs closer to home.

§     Suggested topics for Sunday Programs between masses: Faithful Citizenship, AMEN Program, Deacon Hugh as speaker.

§     St. Nick Breakfast: suggested Family Life Committee be in charge.

§     JoAnn Liss applied for a BEET Grant to produce a newsletter for parents of children from birth through 3 yrs old.

§     Committee recommends surplus from “We Belong to Christ” campaign be saved for future use.

§      The committee has been working without a budget.  Several members will work with Parish Financial Secretary to draw up a budget for the committee.

o        Family Life

§     Reception held for Fr. Al last weekend went very well as well as the Easter Vigil. Council recommended leftover food be given to the Convent or Salvation Army.

§     Mass in the Park will take place on June 8th @ 10:30, Iverson Park.

o        Justice & Peace

§     Coordinating final meal of the season at the Place of Peace, possibly in June.

§     Dates established for Justice & Peace Food Collection weekends and donation sites.

§     Discussed a J&P page/link on St. Stanislaus’ website that to highlight justice & peace issues.

§     Plans are being made for a Personal Care Shower collection in May to benefit the HIV/AIDS Program.

o        Sacred Worship:

§     Barb Rogers is the new Chair.

§     Lenten and Easter liturgies were evaluated:  the consensus was that things went “relatively well.”

§     Committee thought that the Parish Mission with Tom Jacobs was not as effective as in past years.

§     Committee was not pleased with the new way of blessing palms and will look at a different approach for next year.

·         Finance Council Report

o        Winter Carnival Total profit down approximately $3,200 from last year and weekly giving is $16,684 less than the same time last year.

·         Deanery Report: Fr. Marty Pable will be giving a one-day training seminar, Saturday, May 3rd at St. Maximilion’s Parish entitled “How to Share Your Faith (Without Being Obnoxious).” All deanery parishes are invited to participate.

·         Pastor/Staff Report: We Belong to Christ Campaign ~ the Diocese has asked us to do some stewardship education for the parish.

·         Council Chair Report/Announcements: Jeanne Retzke and Lori Stoltz announced their resignation at the end of May.

·         Council will consider holding its August meeting at St. Anthony Retreat Center.

·         Catholics Coming Home Program: Four people attended.  More effort will be given to advertising the next session. Parish Mission: Justice & Peace Committee will make recommendations, endorse this program and take leadership role.

·         Council recommended that a reminder be included in the bulletin to make sure cell phones are off during services.

·         Council recommended that the Parish purchase and offer the “Little Books of the Diocese of Saginaw” for a free will offering.

·         Pastoral Council continues to contact non-responding parishioners about parish membership renewal.
