JOINT JUSTICE AND PEACE (Portage County Deanery) was held on February 13 at St. Joes.

Mary Ann Krems reported that Mark Schuler of the Salvation Army and Dianne Stookey of HIV/AIDS Ministry were the speakers.

The Salvation Army would appreciate it if each parish would prepare and serve a meal each month. It is also requested that a priest, deacon, or other staff person attend.  Becky offered to coordinate parish groups.  Karen Clifford offered to assist.

HIV/Ministry is still active in Portage, Marathon, and Wood County deaneries but has undergone some changes in that it will no longer be part of Catholic Charities by agreement of both parties.  It will now be located at Michael’s Place in Wausau which serves HIV/AIDs clients as well as others with disabilities.  The bread program still exists and Dianne Stookey will be serving a support group in Stevens Point on the 4th Tuesday of each month at Catholic Charities . The  bread ministry and anything else can be delivered at that time. Donations can also be dropped off at  Michael’s Place as well.

BULLETIN BOARD is up and ready for information.

MEAL AT SALVATION ARMY Our committee prepared and served a meal at The Salvation Army on Monday, February 28, 2011.  20 to 25 people were served.  Father George attended.

GRENADA PROJECT Parisioner Gert Nueendorf  who leads missionary work in Grenada is requesting items for a girl’s school.  A sheet listing baking, craft, and sewings was distributed.  Pat Boylan has called Gert and left a message that we need to know where to take these things.  What that information is received we can probably do a bulletin insert.

LENTEN PROJECT  Parish Council Member, Mary Ellen Self, who also mentors as SPASH indicates a serious need for nutrition (mainly breakfast)  A startling 31% have been identified.  It was decided that each Monday (except spring break week) during Lent.  fruit and nutrition bars will be delivered to SPASH at 7:30.   The items will be purchased each week by Karen Clifford and Marcy Ferriter.  Mary Ellen will make the delivery the first week and Karen Clifford is asking for volunteers to make the deliveries the following week.  A bulletin announcement will be made and envelopes will be provided for monetary contributions.

SUMMER PROGRAM TO PARISH COUNCIL ON HUNGER AND POVERTY IN PORTAGE COUNTY Mary Ann Krems will be making this presentation in August.

THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.  Next meeting will take place on April 11, 2011 at 6:30pm.

 Respectfully submitted:  Pat Boylan
